FUNDING

 

At present World Cities University Network is funded by the membership fee, however in future it will also be funded by funds received from various bodies willing to donate monies to WCU.  These funds will only be used for the objectives of WCU as outlined in brief below.  WCU is not in any way a profit-making organization.  The funds received by participating individuals are used to cover the costs of functions directly related to the objectives of WCU.

Any excess funds shown on the balance sheet of WCU represents advance funds and subscriptions and will be used in projects to meet the objectives of the network

OBJECTIVES

 

v To provide a forum for World Cities and their Universities to discuss matters of common interest.

 

v To promote greater understanding of World Cities and their universities through staff and student cooperation, as well as interaction amongst universities, commerce and local government.

 

v To create a network of World Cities with local universities acting as independent drivers to create ad-hoc or semi-permanent think-tanks on topics particularly relevant to World Cities.

 

v To strive to make a difference to World Cities by facilitating transformative processes.

 

v To make universities more responsive to World Cities' issues.

 

v To stimulate mobility between universities, city organizations and business communities.

ANNUAL GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING

 

The Annual General Business Meeting, will be presided over by the Chair.  These meetings will take place as part of the Annual Conference.  A minimum of attendance 10% of the membership of WCU is required for the meeting to proceed.

The meeting will be the forum where members may propose changes to the constitution or membership.  All decisions concerning these matters must be taken by a majority vote of all members of the network. 

Resolutions presented in the Annual General Meeting may be passed by an absolute majority of the votes cast by the members present, where each member holds one vote. 

Any resolution to alter the governing documents or statutes of WCU must be passed by at least a two thirds majority of all the members in the network.

ANNUAL CONFERENCES
WCU is committed to hosting an annual conference where papers, research and collaborative works between local governments and institutions, based on the Network's goals and objectives can be presented and discussed.  The Annual Conference will also serve as the time for the Annual General Meeting where the administration of the Network can be discussed and reviewed

NEXT CONFERENCE
The first Annual Conference and General Meeting of World Cities University Network will be held on May 21-22 2008 at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.
