CHAIR Professor Ross Milbourne

In the first Annual General Meeting, Professor Ross Milbourne (UTS) was elected to replace Dr. Geoffrey Copland as the Chair of World Cities University Network.

Professor Milbourne has been Vice-Chancellor of UTS since 2002. His previous appointments have included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at UTS, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Adelaide and Chair of the Research Grants Committee of the Australian Research Council.

Ross Milbourne received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the U NSW, and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley (under the supervision of Nobel Laureate, Professor George Akerlof). His research interests have been in the general area of macroeconomics and, in particular, the mathematical modelling and statistical testing of macroeconomic theories. During the last decade his research has focused on economic growth in open economies – economies that allow free international movement of goods and capital. This work has led to an interest in technology diffusion and transfer. His most recent work has related this to higher education policy in Australia, by estimating the effect of government funding on human capital.

Professor Milbourne has travelled widely and has taught, lectured, and administered several universities internationally. As a professor and academic he has worked at Queen’s University, Canada and London School of Economics, United Kingdom. Professor Milbourne’s unique combination of experience and particular area of expertise will prove to be great assets to WCU.
